Nagaworld’s title hope comes closer following a convincing 2-0 win over Ministry of National Defense

Nagaworld secured another three needed points following a convincing 2-0 victory over fourth-placed Ministry of National Defense at the Army Stadium yesterday to move five points clear at the top, playing one match ahead of second-placed Boeung Ket, who will face Electricite Du Cambodge this evening.

Coach Meas Channa’s side had a wonderful start to the match, creating several big chances before taking a 2-0 lead at the break thanks to Sung Chihoon’s early goal and Bisan George’s header.

Sung Chihoon’s early strike put Nagaworld in front in the third minute of the play as the South Korean forward smashed it home from the right angle into the top left corner, giving Um Vichet no chance to save.

A poor clearance from Ministry of National Defense goalkeeper Um Vichet handed Sung Chihoon a great chance to bag his second goal as his first effort in a one-on-one situation with the Cambodia international goalkeeper was saved before his second strike went wide over the bar.

Sung Chihoon, once again, came close to double Nagaworld lead, but his effort, which seemed like a cross, went over Um Vichet, but it was only denied by the post.

Ministry of National Defense produced their first big chance of the first half as Sou Yati was forced to come out quickly to grab the ball from Na Hyosung’s through ball to Reung Bunheing before Oup Kamol’s effort outside the box went wide over the bar.

Sung Chihoon broke into the opponents’ penalty box with a brilliant piece of individual skill, but his effort was blocked by the Ministry of National Defense defender.

Oup Kamol produced his second strike of the match from outside the box after the midfielder took the ball well from Anderson’ clearance before unleashing a powerful strike that went wide over the bar.

Nagaworld displayed a great teamwork as left-back Chheng Meng delivered a great low cross to Leng Makara, whose effort inside the box was off target.

Nagaworld forward Bisan George produced treble strikes within a period of two minutes before scoring Nagaworld’s second goal of the match.

The Nigerian headed wide after receiving a cross from Cambodia international midfielder Sos Suhana before his second effort hit the post after Matthew Osa’s excellent through ball.

However, the current Metfone Cambodian League top goal scorer bagged his twenty-second league goal with a fabulous header to extend Nagaworld’s lead to 2-0 in the thirty-fourth minute.

Five minutes later, Sung Chihoon hit the post for the second time in his attempt to bag Nagaworld’s third goal before the half-time break.

There was a heavy rain in the second half, handing both sides a difficult task as most parts of the pitch were covered by water, so the players’ skills and the teams’ match plan were hardly effective.

Ministry of National Defense dominated the possession but failed to create any good chances due to the flooded pitch.
