Cambodia face Vietnam in their conclusion match of Group A this evening as they are already out of the AFF Suzuki Cup, with goalkeeper Vichet Um looking forward to taking on the hosts as he pointed out that it’s an opportunity for him to test his quality.
Vietnam, who sit in the second place in Group A, need three points from this evening’s clash with Cambodia to finish the group stage on top and automatically claim their spot in the semifinal.
Therefore, Vichet Um is aware of how hard it is for Cambodia to face Vietnam at their home, but he insists that his side will do everything it takes to bring home a good result from their final match of the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup.
However, the Ministry of National Defense goalkeeper said that his side are not willing to sit back and wait for a chance to play a counter attack as they plan to deploy a similar tactic they used in the previous matches against Malaysia, Myanmar, and Laos.
“I am always looking forward to facing a big team like Vietnam as it is also a chance for me to test my quality,” Vichet Um, who has made two starts in Cambodia’s three group-stage matches, told TheMorning.
“They are at a higher standard, so we will have much pressure as they also need three points from us. No doubt, they will try to beat us as the game is played at their home.
“It is our conclusion match in Group A, though we will try our best to apply our coach’s tactic. The coach has told us that this is just the start, so we are trying to play the way he wants us to play.
“[Keisuke] Honda told us that results are very important, but we shouldn’t focus much on the results. We need to focus on the team improvement.
“We won’t focus much on defense, and we will apply the tactic we have been training. The coach has urged us to be more confident, so we will play based on the coach’s instruction. We will try to keep the ball possession and need to enjoy the game.”
